I do try to keep my promises and this time I managed just that (it doesn’t happen often…). Some time ago I promised my friend Piero that sooner or later I would’ve gone to visit him to celebrate a small success in my job. The opportunity presented itself thanks to the 25th April festivity (this is a national holiday in Italy). I did not hesitate for a moment, I checked that the provisions were ok (see picture below) and I set off for Crevacuore, a small village near Biella. By coincidence, the R&C factory is located in those surroundings and my friend Piero is a saxophone enthusiast…
A special day indeed…
Travelling from the centre of Italy, the journey is a long one (around 700KM, including detours…). I feel as I’m approaching when mountains and rivers start closing in. There’s no doubt about it the atmosphere here is very special.
Piero and his family were there to welcome and host me for two intense days: his wife Tiziana, his son Giuliano and Minni a loveable kitten which I befriended immediately (FYI I am first on the right).
I really enjoyed myself, we had lots in store and our diary was full of appointments first of all the visit to R&C. I should mention that although we were quite organised we only managed 80% of what we set out to do, but that’s fine, there will be another opportunity. The only things we skipped were the visit to the Quarna Museum and an interview to a famous local artisan.
Regarding the interview, I have appointed Piero “Hobbysax’s special envoy for the Bile region”, for any future visits. In fact Quarna holds every year several initiatives around the world of the saxophone and the marketing activities of R&C’s current owner, the kind Claudio Zolla. It is not unlikely I will take part in one of these events. In that eventuality I will not fail to complete the opera… during this visit we have gathered 90 minutes of audio and visual material, only for the R&C visit and as long again for out “tweaking corner” in Piero’s workshop, covered in detail on our website (only available in Italian language, sorry)
After the welcomes, a great dinner and the initial planning for our visit to R&C in every detail, it’s time to hit the sack. To my surprise I find a friend waiting for me… a terrible doubt: maybe I have taken her place?
